Welcome

Additional Learning Needs

ALN at Jenner Park

Jenner Park Primary School provides a high-quality, inclusive education for all students, including those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and More Able & Talented children.  We aim to meet the learning needs of all children through quality teaching and learning provision and engaging and stimulating learning experiences.

Our Universal Provision includes:

  • High‑quality whole‑class teaching

  • Effective differentiation

  • Inclusive and supportive learning environments

  • Individual and small‑group support

  • Access to targeted interventions e.g. Catch-up Literacy, Language Links

  • Reasonable adjustments to support access to the curriculum and school environment

  •  SELFIE Questionnaires

  • Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA)

The progress of learners is carefully monitored using:

  • assessment tools including PM Reader, WellComm, Language Links and DEST

  • standardised assessments (Numeracy, Reading and Spelling)

  • formative assessments of day-to-day learning

  • monitoring progress across the curriculum over time

Children in protected groups including those who are looked after by our local authority; children with additional learning needs; pupils eligible for free school meals; and pupils learning English as an Additional Language are specifically tracked to ensure they are able to reach their potential.

If a child is identified as not making the expected progress, after a period of monitoring, a person-centred planning meeting with all interested parties will be held to determine whether a child has additional learning needs. We may also seek further assistance from specialists such as Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists and the Engagement Service.

In accordance with the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Act 2018, a child is identified as having an Additional Learning Need if:

  1. they have significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age

  2. they have a disability which prevents or hinders them from accessing the curriculum fully.

The ALN code emphasises increased collaboration, and the importance of providing support and information to ensure that children and their families participate as fully as possible in decisions that affect them.

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance, or contact Ms Allen on 01446 735587
